  Martha Graham Born 11 th May 1894 and died 1 st April 1991. Danced and taught for over 70 years. Creator of contemporary dance. Created 181 ballets. Dancer, teacher, and choreographer.   Her professional career began in 1916 at Denishawn school and dance company founded in Los angles by Ruth St. Denis and Ted Shawn.
