Jazz dance choreographer Bob Fosse

 Task three Bob Fosse  Bob Fosse worked as a choreographer in 'Chicago' and 'all that jazz', he even worked in the Navy. Some of his famous shows and the dates were; Chicago- 1975, All that jazz- 1979, the pyjama game- 1954 and Pippin- 1972. Critics would say that Bob Fosse Jazz technique was slouch and that it had had posture they also used to say it was pointless as their hats covered their faces anyway.  Bob Fosse and his work is so famous as the style ended up being linked to multiple Broadway shows.

  Task two  This picture is showing 'isolations' these are used at the beginning of Jazz classes to help loosen up the  body as you have to move your hips or ribs to the beat of the music. This picture is showing 'low centre of gravity' which is to keep balance, dancers tend to have a low centre of gravity and soft knees because it helps maintain transitions from movement to movement.  This picture is showing a 'contraction'. This is the contrast between desire and duty. The technique of contractions comes from the choreographer  Martha Graham . This picture is showing 'sensuality' which is dance that is supposed to look sexy therefore it tends to have a lot of moves like hip thrusting and buttocks action.  This picture shows 'Jazz hands' is an extension of a performer's hands with palms towards the audience and fingers splayed. Historical context of Jazz dance

Task one   Slaves first started travelling from Africa to America in the 16th to the 19th century in the year 1526. The main reason that slaves travelled from Africa to America was because they were forced into the slave trade.   Music and dance culture of the African slaves that of the white plantation owners as they used music and dance as it helped them take their mind of things whilst they were working they felt as if they sung and danced there way through the day it would go a lot quicker. They both used to use music by telling stories mainly about their work and their past lives.  The music and dance of the African origin formed a starting point for Jazz music and dance as they both can be seen in the close relationship between body movement and moves. Jazz dance is very rhythmic and your likely to move to it in a very rhythmically way similar to how African origin danced.
